A resource & mentorship for anyone using music therapeutically for themselves, at home, or in the classroom.

A deepening relationship with your own musicality.

An end to the cycles of music-based shame and fear.

The Magic and Medicine of Music was born of a desire to end the cycles of music-based shame and fear, whilst amplifying and validating our musicality no matter how it looks and sounds.

Your voice is enough. It has a purpose, and it’s not to be used by us, it’s to keep us safe.

Your musicality is enough. Our creativity is our mother tongue and needs no training.

Your lyrics are enough. Your thoughts, words and intent are potent. They need not be poetic.

MMM is equally intended for those who consider themselves ‘not musical’ as those who identify as a musician.

“This course is called 'The Magic and Medicine of Music'. Right?

I just experienced that said magic and medicine of music first hand! (I say that with eyes widened and a smile as big as my face, overflowing with joy and enthusiasm!)” - Dot

Throughout the course of six weeks we will come together for weekly 2-hour meetings.

During these meetings we will learn, listen and experience together. Each week we will focus on two important elements of musical experience…

Week 1 - voicework and toning

Week 2 - rhythm and movement

Week 3 - singing and vocal self expression

Week 4 - playlists and instruments

Week 5 - melodic mantra and Anticipate/Create/Bask

Week 6 - breathwork and listening

We are in the midst of a body/brain/nervous system REVOLUTION.
We have the neuroscience.
We are becoming trauma informed.
We favour co-regulation.
We know that the brain prefers music over anything else.

What would it feel like to have a healthy relationship with our anger? To fully release pent up grief and pain? To advocate for ourselves and our kids with a voice that takes up space? To sing, dance and create with as much power and freedom as Beyoncé?

And how would it feel to know we can gift the same to our children, ending the cycles of expressive/creative/musical shame RIGHT NOW?

It’s time to find out.

During ‘The Magic and Medicine of Music’ six week program we will…

  • Begin to heal our Musical shame

  • Recreate a sense of being musical

  • Create empowering and inclusive musical experiences for ourselves

  • Hold space for other s to express their musicality

  • Begin to experience moments of music all around us, every day

If you are doing this to better facilitate musical expression in children you will also…

  • Allow the children to bear witness to your musicality so that they become sovereign musical beings without the baggage we have learnt to carry.

Wow Allison thank you for bringing alive and making manifest in the world your wonderful gift of Magic Medicine of Music. Love this” - Rose

A word on ‘Non - Musical People’

To be human is to be musical, there’s not a person alive who isn’t musical because the brain is a musical organ. We are music to our core! Those who don’t identify as musical probably learnt that ‘musical’ means people can play a Western instrument to a certain standard, can sing to a certain standard, had instrument lessons form a young age or can read Western music notation.

Non of this means musical.

A word on ‘Musical People’

It is a blessing and privilege to contain the skills the world calls ‘musical’, they afford us much external validation and opportunity. Also, often our sense of who we are as musicians is guided by our teacher/genre/contract/audience, and many find that the ‘more musical’ we become, the further from our truest expression we found ourselves. The less likely to play, make mistakes, go out of tune, be unpolished.

A word on ‘all people’

Every single one of us has music inside us that music needs to be expressed. Being musical is how we express our emotions, our creativity, our unique perspective, our imagination. Without rhythm, melody, pace, sound, repetition and harmony our brain find life harder, and less safe.

Music is what soothes our nervous system. Not ‘good’ music. And expressing it is what moves emotion through our body so that we are less pent up, and experience more felt safety.

The Magic and Medicine of Music is not for musical people, or non musical people, it’s for all people.

Over 6 weeks you will open yourselves up to a deeper sense of belief in your musicality.

You will dig deeply, emotionally and honestly so that ‘The Magic and Medicine of Music’ becomes more than a training or a professional development event.

There will be tears, confessions, joy, fear, fun, playfulness, awkwardness and comfort zones stretched. It might push you. It WILL transform you.

I just love the live sessions, the group, the sharing so many 'firsts' and enjoying every one of them, the tiny changes that sparkle new layers of healing too” - Vera

Hi, I'm Alli.

A former Neurologic Music Therapist who stepped out of the allied health system after 16 years, and now focuses on enacting societal change by dismantling harmful musical myths.

As a woman I was suppressed by the systems that told me to ‘be seen and not heard’, to ‘stop being hysterical’, to ‘not give up my day job’ in response to my musical expression.

Others were led to believe that not being able to play an instrument, sing in tune or access lessons meant they were ‘not musical’. Some were told to mine in the school choir. Many were punished for using their voice to speak up.

These systems are coming to an end.

AND WE ARE THE ONES DISMANTLING THEM.

To be human is to be musical. And once we step into our full power as musical beings our lives will transform in ways we never knew were possible.

The Magic and Medicine of Music is my six week program that delves into the connections between music and the brain. It’s a guide to re-membering your voice and experiencing music the way you deserve.

By the end of our six weeks together you'll be expressing yourself musically in a newly authentic way, striving less to meet external expectations, using your voice in powerful ways and facilitating music with children in ways they deserve to experience.

  • Recognise that we are musical beings

  • Practice using our voice and expressing our musicality

  • Let our children witness this

  • Our children learn from the beginning that it’s ok to express themselves musically.

Healing from our musical shame may feel complicated but the way forward is simple...

BOOM!!! They never develop musical shame. The cycle ends here.

The Magic & Medicine of Music is a resource for personal expansion AND for facilitating deep and meaningful connections to music in our children.

What we’ll cover:

UNPACKING

We will delve into the internal and external systems that have kept our voices quiet and small, kept our emotional expression polite an unfulfilling and our musicality hidden beneath the shadows of the ones we call ‘musical’. We will recognise these patterns in our lives and then let them go.

Thankyou so much for holding space for me over the last few weeks. The fire in my belly is stronger than ever!” - Deanna

NEW LEARNING

We will redefine music and explore its core elements with a key focus on:

  • Singing

  • Voicework

  • Rhythmic games

  • Movement

  • Anticipate, Create, Bask (ACB)

  • Playlists

  • Listening

  • Melodic Mantra

  • Vocal Self Expression

  • Breathwork

  • Instruments

MOVING FORWARD

You will have gained the skills to facilitate the most fundamental of music-based sessions with both children and adults. Sessions that plant seeds of regulation, that we water by practicing, and that become some of the most effective means of supporting our brain/body/nervous system to regulate.
