Songs of Anxiety
The ‘Songs of Anxiety’ package includes:
A pre-recorded lesson about anxiety (relevant to adults and children)
A melodic mantra video series of songs that sing to, and about, anxiety for you to use.
A one hour online song circle where we practice those songs.
As you likely already know we sing to our anxiety all the time. We choose music that ‘feels right’ in the moment, we soothe our children and ourselves with specific tones of voice and sway, sing gently.
One of the things we don’t tend to do as easily is sing to the truth of our pain, to the core of our anxiety, naming it, accepting it. Often in my work when someone shares a song about a perceived negative emotion they’ll pre-empt their song with “sorry, I”m about to bring the mood down!” or sometimes even “I’m not sure if I should sing this one cause it’s a bit negative”.
We’ve been taught that singing/speaking/reading/thinking in the affirmative is best. That’s how we shift our state of mind.
But I truly believe that naming our current state is paramount. Recognising it. Naming it. Not being ashamed of it.
When we sing to the truth of our anxiety we take a little control back, because singing of it means we understand it and to the brain understanding anything means safety. And so a safe brain talks to the nervous system and together they relax a little and all of a sudden anxiety is not as bold.
