Multi-dimensionality of music

Multi dimensionality describes something that has multiple dimensions.

Exists in different ways, transcends boundaries, can be explained in one way but also in completely other way, can be felt and experienced in multiple ways.

Look, I’ve never read any actual science or definition that includes ‘multi dimensionality’ as a building block of music. But I do believe it to be true.

You know how music touches you in a physical way, but also an emotional way? And also a spiritual way? And then in a soul level way? That’s what I’m talking about.

On my 18th birthday card my Dad wrote the words “remember Alli, music transcends all barriers”.

It’s true, isn’t it? We’ve all felt it.

That sense of ultimate fulfilment as we stand in a crowd of thousands at the festival of our dreams. Or the chills we get when the choir sings The Hallelujah Chorus in a cathedral.

It doesn’t matter what language we speak, what culture we were brought up in, which country we live in, how our politics define us, our level of education, our literacy, our musical background, or how much money we have.

Music transcends every barrier and touches us in a way that goes beyond any earthly or physical limitation.
