The Swearing Workshop

For most of us, swearing is something we were told not to do - we were taught it was bad mannered, offensive and not what well behaved children did.

And so… we developed yet another way of keeping our emotions pent up inside us, and yet another way of suppressing our voices.

But neuroscience knows best! And we now know that swearing can come with many benefits, serving as a release of emotional energy, an outlet for motivation, passion, anger, excitement and other extreme feelings and a way of communicating even when our cognition is hard to access (ie. during survival mode or shutdown).

Swearing, in fact, can be therapeutic.

Come and join me as we practice creating ‘sweary melodic mantras’. An opportunity to sing our mantras into existence with the intensity they deserve.

A way of intensifying our message. A way of breaking free from the ‘good girl/boy’ messaging many of us are still bound to, even as adults. A way of expanding our repertoire and releasing deep emotional wounds.

Hi, I'm Alli.

A former Neurologic Music Therapist who stepped out of the allied health system after 16 years, and now focuses on enacting societal change by dismantling harmful musical myths.

As a woman I was suppressed by the systems that told me to ‘be seen and not heard’, to ‘stop being hysterical’, to ‘not give up my day job’ in response to my musical expression.

Others were led to believe that not being able to play an instrument, sing in tune or access lessons meant they were ‘not musical’. Some were told to mine in the school choir. Many were punished for using their voice to speak up.

These systems are coming to an end.

AND WE ARE THE ONES DISMANTLING THEM.

To be human is to be musical. And once we step into our full power as musical beings our lives will transform in ways we never knew were possible.
